An investigation has been launched into the alleged drowning of a 20-year-old man whose body was discovered in the Essequibo River on December 11.
Dead is Nyron Parke, a labourer of Lot 31 Section ‘B’ Hyde Park, East Bank Essequibo (EBE). The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported on Tuesday that the man’s body was found at about 08:30 hrs.
The young man was employed by Achie’s and Son Stone and Supplies located at Parika, EBD. On the day in question, Parke along with his employer and other co-workers left Parika to visit another worksite at Manaka, Essequibo River where they spent the night.
According to the police, the next day, the group boarded a speedboat at Manaka en route to Parika. The other men claimed that Parke went back to barge before the boat left the dock but he never returned.
They claimed that a search party was launched and Parke’s body was fished out of the river in the vicinity of the barge.
The body was transported to Parika by his coworkers, and was examined by a police rank for marks of violence but none was seen, according to police headquarters.
The body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
