Two weeks after several villages in the Mazaruni River experienced devastating floods, Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams is reporting that the water has begun to recede.

Quebanang, Kangaruma, Waramadong, Phillipai, Pappy Show Landing and Mango Landing were all experiencing different levels of flooding.

Other areas such as Eteringbang and Arau Village were also affected.

“The water has receded a little bit in the Lower Mazaruni area and in the Upper Mazaruni area.

“What we were experiencing was consistent rainfall and now we getting some sunshine,” Williams related.

According to him, the water receded about six inches in the Middle Mazaruni area.

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) has also been providing aid for affected residents.

“The CDC has done some work in the Upper Mazaruni area and did their assessments and distribution has started in some areas.”

Mr Williams told the News Room that he is in constant contact with the toshaos in the villages.

Residents countrywide are urged to take precautions where necessary and to report any flooding to local authorities or the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500 or 226-1114 at any time.
