The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Monday said an investigation has been launched into the alleged murder of Ricky Ambrose, the mining surveyor who was chopped to death on Sunday.
A release by the GPF said the 40-year-old man of Profit’s Square, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was killed on Sunday, December 18, 2022, on “Guana”Sand Trail, Cuyuni River in Region Seven.
Investigations so far revealed that Ambrose was a licensed firearm holder of a .32 Pistol. He was employed as a ranger with Alphonso Mining in the Cuyuni River.
Based on information received, at about 05:00 hrs on Sunday, Ambrose left Arimu Landing en route to “Guana” Sand Landing with his ATV #CK 3965.
However, at about 11:00 hrs on the said day, a 24-year-old miner was heading from his work ground to camp-ground and was walking along the Arimu trail when he observed a body lying motionless on the ground with multiple injuries. The body was about 20 feet from the ATV.
An alarm was raised, and a report was subsequently made at the Bartica Police Station. Ranks immediately responded and commenced their journey to the area. However the axle of the ATV the ranks were travelling on broke and was eventually fixed, before the team was met with a creek which prevented them from crossing and later arrived on Monday at 6:00 hrs. Upon arrival at the scene, the investigation was launched. No firearm, gold or cash was found. The body was escorted to Bartica Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force has also taken note of a statement emanating from the Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA). The Association reported that the Police “only visited the area sometime on the morning of Monday, December 19, 2022 to assess the scene and remove the body.”
The GGDMA noted in its release that Arumu is not a far distance away from Bartica.
“The GGDMA would like to express its condolences to the family and friends of the late Ricky Ambrose and calls on the Authorities to have a proper investigation into this incident. The Association also calls on the Authorities put proper systems in place at our borders to negate all criminal activities,” GGDMA stated.
