Deadly Moruca boat accident: Captain was on the way to pick up son

The boat captain who died on Friday afternoon while traveling along the Moruca River, in Region One, has been identified as Rudolph Henry, 53, of Parakeese Village, North West District.

Henry’s daughter-in-law, Quinnell Peters during an interview with the News Room, said the man was also a pastor at the Full Gospel Church.

She also said that the father of five was on his way to pick up his son when the accident occurred.

“He was going to Kumaka to collect his son…the one who came from Georgetown today.”

The News Room understands that Henry was the only person onboard when the collision occurred along the Moruca River.

Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Himnauth Sawh confirmed that the incident occurred at 13:30 hrs while the two boats were sailing in the vicinity of Mora Village.

Enquiries disclosed that on Nikita Miller, the captain of the other boat involved in the accident was driving her boat in the vicinity of Mora Village in the Moruca River, heading to Chinese Landing, when the accident occurred. Henry received injuries and was rushed to the Kumaka District Hospital where he was seen and examined by Doctor who later pronounced him dead.

Commander Sawh said an investigation has been launched; Henry’s body is currently at the hospital’s morgue awaiting a post mortem examination.
