A businessman who reportedly drove his Tacoma vehicle into a crowd of people at Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice, killing a resident and injuring three others at the weekend, has turned himself in to the Police in the company of his lawyer.

The News Room understands that 36-year-old Shazad Sattaur of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice (EBB), remains in the custody of the Police.

An argument between Sattaur and others at a wedding house in the community led to him driving into the crowd of people, instantly killing 51-year-old Somdatt Indal known as ‘Fats’, a resident of the same area.

Injured are Dion Kistnen, 11; Daniel Sakichand, 21 and Levon Reis, 34.

Indal’s mother, Damyantie Ramnath known as ‘Rina’ on Monday cried out for justice, noting that her son met a gruesome death.

the child involved in the accident sustained severe injuries to both legs, his arms, and other parts of his body.

“I want justice for me son because me son is not a bad person, he like drink he rum and make joke with people, he na cuss nobody or fight with nobody…”

As she broke down in tears, Ramnath said her son did not deserve to die that way.

“All he teeth bruk up, me son na deserve da.”

Meanwhile, the child involved in the accident sustained severe injuries to both legs, his arms, and other parts of his body.

His uncle, Alex Reis, told the News Room that an argument spiraled out of control at the wedding house.

“The big pick-up just made one pull out between the crowd, there was a wedding house there, so he just drive and hit like about four persons…”

Reis said he was about to take his nephew home when the incident occurred.  He claimed that after the accident, Sattaur drove his vehicle further up the road and “fired two shots” before speeding away from the scene.

However, Regional Commander, Shivpersaud Bacchus told News Room that Police did not receive any reports of shots being fired.
