A man who reportedly confessed to murdering his ex-lover was charged on Thursday and remanded to prison.

Deonarine Sawh, called ‘Boyzie’, a machine operator of Plantation Hope, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court where the offence of murder was read to him.

Police Headquarters reported that he was not required to plea and was remanded to prison until March 14, 2023, when the case will be called for report.

Sawh was captured on January 25, 2023, after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in relation to the murder of Nazaleen Mohamed at Hope Lowlands, ECD.

Sawh reportedly told investigators that after Mohammed asked him for the money, he went to her house on January 23.

But after he did not have enough money, they got into an argument. He then proceeded to chop the woman several times about her body with a cutlass.

The man detailed that he walked away and Mohammed fell into the canal along with her purse, phone and the murder weapon.

Sawh then proceeded to an abandoned house at Mahaica and claimed that he consumed a poisonous substance. Two days after the murder, Sawh was arrested at the abandoned house during a pre-dawn operation by the Police. He was hospitalised under police guard.
