Palmyra, Canje in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) is set for significant development as contracts worth $5.2 billion were inked on Friday.
Earlier this month, President Dr. Irfaan Ali said a new sports stadium, housing projects, hotels and a hospital are among the developments set for Palmyra. Out of a total of 1,200 houses to be constructed in the region, he also noted that 700 will be at Palmyra.
Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal, on Friday, said works will advance at Palmyra as the infrastructure works are executed.
The contracts for infrastructure development works at Lots One to 10 in Palmyra were awarded to:

- K.P Jagdeo General Contractor- $680,803,830
- Annirud Ramcharitar Construction Firm- $990,276,840
- Annirud Ramcharitar Construction Firm- $737,943,255
- SAWA Investment- $285,942,447
- Dennis Tahal Engineering- $517,000,048
- Premium Asphalt – $687,218,595
Aside from the Housing investments at Palmyra, President Ali had said that there will be Public Works investments and private investments.
Meanwhile, other contracts were also awarded for infrastructure works in the No. 75 and No. 76 villages in Region Six.
These contracts were part of the 126 contracts inked on Friday by the Housing and Water Ministry. The contracts all amounted to $56.8 billion but three of those are slated for retendering.
