A 28-year-old taxi driver who crashed into a trench not far from his house at La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, died on Tuesday night.

He has been identified as Amos Li, who was attached to the Ovo Taxi service in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam). He was a father of four children and his wife is currently pregnant.

The News Room understands that Li lost control of his Fielder Wagon (HD 252) and ended up inside the trench at around 22:30 hrs; at the time, a female passenger was in the car.

Reports indicate that she sustained a fractured hand and is currently hospitalised.

Li’s sister, Meeksia Tyrell, told the News Room that his death is a “nightmare” for the family, noting that her sister-in-law (wife of Li’s twin brother) recently died in a drowning incident at Feather Beach.

“This is my brother twin, the guy that died is a twin, we can’t believe this. My mother can’t catch her length, we don’t know what’s happening in our family,” the distraught sister told the News Room.

Tyrell said the family received a call around 23:00 hrs about the accident.

“When we went, the vehicle was badly damaged and we had to rush him at the hospital.”

Li succumbed to his injuries at the Suddie Hospital. A Police investigation is ongoing.
