Two men on Thursday appeared virtually at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court charged with the assault of Marlon Daniels, a teacher of West Coast Berbice.

Dishon Daniels and Trey McPherson appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh and pleaded not guilty to the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm.

They were released on $15,000 bail each and are scheduled to re-appear in court on March 30, 2023.

Daniels, a teacher of the Fort Wellington Secondary School in Region Five, was beaten and verbally abused by a fourth form student and his relatives on March 13 during school hours.

He sustained injuries to his face, back, arms and other parts of his body.

Daniels claimed that the student cursed at him while he was teaching the class and so, he took the child to the Headmaster’s office.

It is alleged that even at the Headmaster’s office, the child continued to use indecent language and threatened him, the head teacher and another senior teacher.

Daniels said the student threatened that he would return to school with his uncle to “deal” with him.

Later that day, when Daniels ventured over to a photocopying shop, he was attacked by the student, his uncle and four other male adults.

They battered him with their fists and a steel bar.
