Another 1, 500 house lots will be developed and distributed along the East Coast corridor this year, Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues said on Tuesday.

This will add to the 1,500 lots developed at Lusignan and Good Hope. Those house lots were distributed on Tuesday at a “Dream Realised” housing allocation event.

Some 5,900 house lots were previously distributed from 2020 to 2023.

This is in keeping with the government’s manifesto promise of delivering 50,000 house lots across the country during its 2020 to 2025 term in office.

Rodrigues explained that the government hopes to develop the East Coast corridor to mirror the development that has taken on the East Bank Demerara corridor.

To facilitate that development, new highways and road links are being constructed alongside new housing schemes. A new roadway is expected to be established to connect Good Hope to the Aubrey Barker roadway in Georgetown, which eventually leads to the East Bank Demerara corridor.

“All of the schemes on the East Coast are leading in the direction of the East Bank,” Rodrigues said.

With the new roadways and schemes developed on the East Coast corridor, Rodrigues expects the value of people’s land to increase exorbitantly.
