Turkeyen businessman gets $200,000 bail for possession of firearm, ammo charges

Joshua Taylor called ‘Chiney’, who was arrested after he was caught with an illegal firearm and a quantity of ammunition was on Wednesday charged and released on bail.

The 21-year-old businessman of Lot 50 South Turkeyen, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges of possession of ammunition without a license and possession of firearm without a license.

He denied both charges and was released on $200,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until May 12.

Taylor was arrested on Monday and in a statement issued the following day, Police Headquarters said a party of Police ranks were conducting duties at a road block in the vicinity of Triumph, East Coast Demerara when they stopped the motorcar – PXX 2117.

A search was conducted on the heavily tinted motorcar and the vehicle’s occupants during when a suspected .40 Glock pistol with four suspected .40 rounds of ammunition was allegedly found in the pants crotch of the businessman.

Taylor was a passenger of the car

Police said the businessman was told of the offence, cautioned and escorted to the Beterverwagting Police Station, East Coast Demerara.
