Overheating AC conductor caused fire which killed Corentyne pastor

An overheating AC conductor ignited nearby combustibles, sparking a fire that destroyed a house at Williamsburg, Corentyne, leaving a 64-year-old man dead, the Guyana Fire Service said on Thursday

Dead is Herman Pereira, a pastor and businessman.

The News Room understands that the elderly man was trapped inside the house. His body was pulled from the rubble after firefighters managed to contain the blaze.

The Fire Service said they received the call at 07:44 hrs and firefighters responded. When they arrived on the scene the two-storey wooden and concrete building was engulfed in flames.

Mr Perreira lived at the house with his family of six.

The building and its contents were destroyed, the Fire Service stated.
