Canje woman died after artery at the neck was severed

A post-mortem examination conducted on the body of Hashwattie “Telisha” Domandeo, 36 of Blairmont Settlement, West Bank Berbice revealed that she died after the artery at her neck was severed and also because she suffered a fractured cervical spine and shock and hemorrhage.

Domandeo’s body was found in Betsy Ground, East Canje with her head almost severed and was wrapped in a blood-stained blanket. Police said she was abducted from her mother’s home in Blairmont on April 14, 2023 by three men, including her ex partner Sunil Durga, 50 of Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice.

Following the discovery of her body, Police had found a blood-stained mattress and sheet at a location in the Canje Creek and had subsequently issued a wanted bulletin for Durga in relation to the murder of Domandeo.

Two days later, police received information that Durga’s body was seen floating in the Canje Creek.

A post mortem examination was also done on his body and it revealed that he died from asphyxiation and drowning. Police said no foul play is suspected.

Both bodies have since been handed over to relatives for burial.
