American businessman, Ramy El-Batrawi, who recently tendered the highest bid for the Guyana Marriott Hotel, is setting up a factory in Guyana to build prefabricated houses for the local market.
“We’re working on building a factory there [Guyana] to make prefabricated homes because there’s a big demand for housing.
“It’s a three-stage factory and we’re very far along on that,” El-Batrawi said during an interview with the News Room on Tuesday.
According to him, that facility will produce about 120 houses per day for the low-income housing sector. The factory, being established with a California partner, would also be able to produce buildings up to 11 stories tall.
El-Batrawi also says the project is moving along but he is yet to find a suitable location for the sizable facility. About 25 acres of land is needed to facilitate the establishment of the factory.
Importantly, the businessman highlighted that he is not only interested in the house-making factory or the Marriott Hotel. In fact, there are several other business opportunities he is assessing.
“… There’s other real estate and hotel projects that are interesting, and roads and bridges and a lot of things in agriculture. So, there are a lot of things we are looking at to see what is the best way to invest in Guyana.
“…(Guyana is) one of the more exciting areas to invest (in). We’re just taking a closer, harder look at the country overall because we think it’s got a really bright future,” the businessman told the News Room.
The businessman also believes that Guyana is an attractive place for foreign investments and will be exploring local partnerships.
Already, El- Batrawi met with President Dr. Irfaan Ali, United States Ambassador to Guyana Sarah- Ann Lynch and other officials twice last year.
El- Batrawi’s company, X, is a holding company for all of its assets. He has over three decades of business experience. (Vishani Ragobeer)
