‘Sir Mars’ was at city bar with attacker hours before he was killed

Hours before he was brutally murdered on Sunday night, educator and comedian, Kirwyn Mars, popularly known as ‘Sir Mars’ and his alleged killer were seen together at a city bar.

Police Headquarters on Wednesday released photographs of Sir Mars and his killer, who has been identified as 24-year-old Brian Richards, of John Fernandes Squatting area, arriving and leaving the Green City Bar located at the corners of D’Urban Street and Vlissengen Road at about 17:38hrs.

In one of the photographs, Sir Mars was seen approaching the driver’s side of the vehicle, which was allegedly used in the crime.

They departed at 20:59 hrs, less than two hours before Mars was killed.

Police on Tuesday arrested Richards at his workplace in Georgetown. He remains in custody and is said to be assisting with the investigation.

Sir Mars was found pinned between his car and an apartment building fence at Perseverance, East Bank Demerara, with his body crushed and covered in blood.

Police, in its official report on Monday, revealed that two knives were recovered at the scene. Mars was found with multiple lacerations and stab wounds to his face, hands, head, shoulder, and other parts of his body.

According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 22:30 hrs on May 7.

It is alleged that at Mars and the suspect had a “misunderstanding” that escalated inside Mars’ vehicle. As a result, both parties armed themselves with knives and stabbed each other.

Mars exited the vehicle in an attempt to escape but the suspect reversed the vehicle and pinned him to the fence.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and escaped in a southern direction on foot. Sir Mars joined the teaching profession in 1992. He was also an actor and comedian. He was the deputy principal at the New Central High School in Georgetown.
