Mon Repos accident victim died from crush injuries – PM

Ralph De Castro, the 57-year-old man who was struck down and killed on the Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public road died from multiple crush injuries, an autopsy revealed.

Police Headquarters said the autopsy was done by pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh on Wednesday.

De Castro was positively identified by his neighbours, Mohamed Nizam Khan and Selena Calistro.

The accident had occurred around 19:30 hrs on May 13.

Police had said DeCastro was struck by motorcar, PAD 7001, which was heading east along the northern drive lane of the public road.

The driver of the car, who has been identified as a 41-year-old woman of Church Street, Enmore, ECD, was arrested and subsequently released on bail as the investigation continues.

The driver told the Police that DeCastro walked suddenly across the road and into the path of her vehicle; she said she applied brakes but the left side front of the car still collided with DeCastro.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by public spirits citizens and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
