Carpenter remanded for murder of niece’s boyfriend
Hamid Amin, a 49-year-old carpenter of Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Friday remanded to prison for the offence of murder.
Amin was not required to plea to the indictable charge which was read to him by Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

He is accused of murdering Shivram Mohabir on May 29, 2023, at Martyrsville, ECD.
The accused was represented by attorney Jermone Khan. The case was adjourned to August 2, 2023.
Mohabir called ‘Vickash’, was a 23-year-old mechanic who succumbed on Monday night, hours after he was stabbed over an old grievance.
The incident occurred around 18:30 hrs while Mohabir was at his girlfriend’s Fifth Street, Martyrsville, Mon Repos house.
He was stabbed several times to the body, allegedly by Amin – the uncle of his girlfriend – and was rushed to a city hospital where he died while undergoing emergency surgery at around 10:30 hrs.
The dead man’s aunt, Ruth Mohabir had told the News Room that about two weeks ago the victim and the suspect had an argument.
She said while the Police were involved and both parties were asked to return to the Police Station, only Shivram did. As such, the matter was not pursued.
Amim was apprehended by the Police at his Mon Repos, ECD shortly after the stabbing.
