The body of Gavin Cox, the sailor who went missing following a boat mishap in the Essequibo River was recovered on Sunday.
The News Room was reliably informed that after days of searching, the body of 29-year-old Cox was found around 14:00hrs, some 300 feet from the river bank at River’s View on the Essequibo River.
The boat accident occurred at around 19:45hrs Thursday last.
Cox was the lone occupant of the boat when it was allegedly hit by a fiberglass boat, which Mark Gonsalves operated.
Police said Cox was traversing the Essequibo River when the fiberglass boat, powered by a 300 hp engine, collided with his vessel.
As a result of the impact, Cox was tossed overboard.
Gonsalves reportedly related to the Police that he attempted to search the area for Cox but his efforts were futile.
The matter was reported to the Bartica Police Station and an investigation was launched.
