A 42-year-old man was on Monday remanded to prison after he denied having six pounds of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Magistrate Esther Sam read the charge to Rocky Mangra when he appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.

He pleaded not guilty and was refused bail.

The case was adjourned to June 26, 2023.

Mangra of Grant St Joseph, Lower Pomeroon, was taken into custody by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) last Friday following the discovery of $1M in cannabis in a boat at Charity Stelling in Region Two.

In a press statement, CANU said a team of ranks carried out an operation at the stelling during which a search was conducted on a boat and a box containing several parcels of suspected cannabis was found.

Mangra was the lone occupant of the boat.

He was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, where the suspected narcotics tested positive for cannabis.
