Powerlifting Federation granted full affiliate status by GOA

At one of the more recent Council Meeting of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), it was unanimously agreed that after re-submission of complete documents for full membership and affiliation, the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation has been deemed fully affiliated to the GOA with full affiliate status.

The Executive Committee of the GOA recognised that the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF), under the auspices of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF), had nominated a National Team to participate in the Annual World Classic Open Powerlifting Championship, which was held from June 11-18 in Malta.

The Team comprised of athlete Carlos Peterson-Griffith and Gordon Spencer, a Category II Referee, who also functioned as Manager/Coach.

According to President of the Federation, Franklin Wilson, “The Federation is confident that the nominated athlete and support personnel will capably represent the Federation and country and their participation at this championship is another positive step in further strengthening Guyana’s distinguished presence on the international powerlifting scene.”

At the handover ceremony at the Olympic House, President of the Guyana Olympic Association, Godfrey Munroe, opined that it gives great pleasure for the Guyana Olympic Association to lend support to the Federation’s members.
