Man, 20, remanded for father’s stabbing death

Close to two weeks after he allegedly stabbed his father to death during an argument over food, a 20-year-old man was charged and remanded to prison.

Yeison Hernandez of ‘C’ Field, Sophia appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

He is accused of murdering Eyone Hernandez, 47, at their Sophia home on June 18, 2023.

The younger Hernandez was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge which was read to him by Chief Magistrate (acting) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

He was remanded to prison and the case was adjourned.

Police Headquarters had said that Yeison, who suffers from mental illness, was arrested shortly after the stabbing.

The murder weapon, a knife, was also recovered in his possession.

According to a Police report, inquiries revealed that Yeison and his father had an argument over food when the suspect armed himself with a knife and allegedly dealt the victim a stab to the back of his left thigh.

An alarm was raised by Eyone’s wife.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Technicians.
