Police on Tuesday arrested a truck driver and three porters following the discovery of 702 grammes of marijuana in the tray of a truck during a search outside the Sherima Police Station.

In custody are Andre Hollingsworth, 47 of Soesdyke/Linden Highway, 22-year-old Scott Evans and 39-year-old Leroy Evans, both of Kuru Kuru, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the discovery was made around 08:30hrs after ranks conducted a routine check on motor lorry, GWW 8651 driven by Hollingsworth.

According to the Police, after the lorry was stopped at the police check point, searches were conducted on the men but nothing illegal was found in their possession.

However, upon further searching, Police said a rank unearthed a white plastic bag containing two transparent bulky parcels with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The men were informed of the suspicion, cautioned and arrested.

But, Police said they all denied knowledge of the cannabis, claiming that they were hired on Monday to take the truck to Puruni Landing.

They said the truck belongs to a resident of Kuru Kuru.

“The men indicated that they collected the truck at 03:00 hrs this morning (Tuesday) and travelled to Sherima Police Station (where the Narcotic was found),” Police Headquarters said.

They were taken to the Bartica Police Station where the narcotics was weighed in their presence and amounted to 702 grammes.

Hollingsworth, Evans and Evans were placed into custody and efforts are being made to contact the owner of the truck, Police said.
