Deadly Good Hope fire: Five others managed to escape

Five persons managed to escape the Tuesday morning fire at Good Hope, Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam) that claimed the lives of Sasha La Cruz, 34, and her nine-year-old son, Ilyas Wilson.

The fire reportedly started at around 04:00hrs.

The News Room understands that the two-storey house was owned by Ilene Wilson.

Her two sons Andrew and Linden Wilson were living there with their families.

Arlene Burnette, a neighbour, said she heard shouting and when she looked over she saw a raging fire at the Wilsons’ house.

Five persons, including four children, managed to escape the blaze.

La Cruz and her son, who were in the lower flat of the building, were unable to save themselves.

“My daughter and me talk the night, the children went to bed, they got all their school things and she was putting them up now all gone and burn up,” La Cruz’s mother, Savitri Wilson said.

She added that it was the neighbours who alerted the relevant authorities.

However, when fire tenders arrived at the scene they were unable to save La Cruz and her son.

The bodies were removed and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital before being transported to the Suddie Mortuary.
