Farmer arrested with unlicensed shotgun, ammo at ranch

Police have arrested a 36-year-old farmer following the discovery of an unlicensed 12-gauge shotgun and several matching rounds at the Mariro Ranch, Karasabai, Region Nine.

The suspect has been identified as Kelbert Isaac, a resident of South Pakaraimas.

The discovery was made at around 16:00 hrs Saturday.

According to Police Headquarters, ranks acted on information received and went to the ranch where they conducted a search on the premises.

Police said Isaac did not object and the search was conducted in his presence during which the firearm and ammunition were found.

“A brown 12-gauge shotgun was found braced to a wall along with three 12-gauge cartridges in a blue and white plastic bag on a wooden table inside the ranch house,” Police said.

Isaac was asked if is the holder of a firearm license and he responded, “no sir”.

As such, he was told of the offence, cautioned and taken to the Lethem Police Station where he remains in custody.
