Six months jail for woman who smuggled ganja inside Prison HQ

A woman who has admitted to smuggling cannabis inside the Prison Headquarters in Georgetown was on Friday sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Channon Chichester, 28, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and pleaded guilty to having in her possession 22 grams of cannabis.

The illegal drugs were found hidden in several Colgate toothpaste brand boxes along with the toothpaste tube.

The court heard that the defendant arrived at the Prison Headquarters and was stopped by ranks for a routine search. In one of her bags, officers found a quantity of plastic parcels containing seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Chichester begged the court to be lenient with her since she has three sons, ages nine, eight and six.

Following her guilty plea, she was sentenced to six months imprisonment.
