Guyanese Priyanna Ramdhani and Akili Haynes copped a total of three silver medals at the Trinidad and Tobago International Series 2023, which concluded at the weekend.

The duo teamed up to finish second in the Mixed Doubles category, while Ramdhani partnered with Monyata Riviera of Barbados to cop silver in the Women’s Doubles.

Ramdhani and Haynes also competed in their respective Singles event in a tournament that attracted players from around the world who are seeking qualification to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ramdhani posted social media at the end of the tournament: “Unfortunately, I was not able to compete in the finals due to a knee injury. Two days ago, I injured my knee, but I tried my best to continue playing for my teammates. I pushed through my matches and made it to finals, however, I was not able to walk/run on the day of the finals. Sorry to disappoint, but I tried my best. Thank you to my teammates, Akili and Monyata who supported me and played with me throughout the tournament. Also, thank you to my friends and family who also supported me for this tournament and Theodore Di’Genius Henry for the physical training leading up to all of our competitions.”

Haynes posted on social media: “Trinidad was the first country where I won my first medal outside of Guyana (Junior Carebaco- Bronze) and here it is again that I’ve won my first senior medal (Silver in Mixed Doubles) in Trinidad. Always grateful for the opportunities and experiences Badminton has afforded me. Special thanks to all friends and family who have supported with their kind words and messages, Guyana Badminton Association, Emily Ramdhani, my partner in Mixed Doubles Priyanna Ramdhani and most importantly God.”

The Guyana Badminton Association said it is very pleased and happy with the results of Ramdhani and Haynes. The Association expressed thanks to the Guyana Olympic Association for helping to make the trip possible.
