Woman, 27, dies in collision at Belle West

A 27-year-old woman died last Friday following a collision with a truck on the Belle West Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

Dead is Zana Majeed, also of Belle West.

Reports are that the accident occurred around 13:50hrs.

At the time, Majeed was riding an unregistered electric cycle.

She allegedly collided with motor lorry, GLL 1019, driven by a 48-year-old resident of New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, WBD.

The News Room understands that the motor lorry was heading north along the road, while Majeed was also proceeding in the said direction.

As she overtake the motor lorry, Majeed allegedly lost control of the electric cycle and collided with the lorry’s left rear wheel.

As a result of the collision, Majeed sustained injuries about her body including to her head.

She was picked up and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was given a breathalyser test but no trace of alcohol was detected. He was taken into custody as part of the investigation.

Majeed’s body is presently lying at Ezekiel Parlor awaiting a post-mortem examination.
