As investigations continue into the shooting incident which has left 32-year-old Ashmin Mahadeo of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice critically wounded, her 29-year-old fiancé has been arrested.
The News Room was reliably informed that the suspect, an engineer attached to the National Drainage & Irrigation Authority in Region Six is currently in custody.
The engineer and Mahadeo shared a relationship for seven years.
The shooting occurred approximately 07:40 hrs Sunday.
Mahadeo was shot once to her upper body. She is currently admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a critical condition.
The News Room was informed that the engineer told Police that the woman contacted him and indicated that she had a nail appointment. He said he went to her house and together they packed some things into a vehicle.
Afterwards, he said he stepped away to go into the house and the woman remained by the vehicle.
He said when he got into the house, he heard a loud explosion and when he checked he saw Mahadeo lying in front the gate.
The engineer said he immediately raised an alarm.
Mahadeo was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital and subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital. Due to her condition, she was subsequently transferred to the GPHC.
Police have since searched the location for CCTV cameras and have managed to locate one, which they will be checking for an evidence in the case.
Engineer bhai could have come up with a better scenario than that. 07:40 in the morning, left woman in vehicle, then saw her in front of gate after explosion when he got into house….for what ? Aha ! The Gun ?
He didn’t say he saw anyone else outside.
