Chairman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) Daniel Seeram was initially expected to appear in court last week to answer to a charge of assault allegedly committed on his wife but he was absent.

The News Room was reliably informed that based on legal advice received, the Police filed the charge against Seeram.

The matter was called on September 25, 2023, at the Sparandaam Magistrate’s Court.

However, the News Room understands that on that date, Seeram did not appear in court.

As such, a summons was issued for him to appear in court. His next court date is October 10, 2023.

It is unknown what may have led to Seeram’s absence.

Seeram is being charged for allegedly assaulting his wife, causing grievous bodily harm.

The incident occurred on September 11 at their Cummings Lodge, Georgetown apartment at about 03:00 hrs.

Sources had told the News Room that Seeram returned home during the wee hours during which he and his wife got into a heated argument.

The argument escalated and the couple ended up in a scuffle during which they allegedly beat each other. It is also alleged that Seeram brandished his licensed firearm during the incident.

Seeram eventually left the apartment and a report was made at the Turkeyen Police station by his wife. At the time, there were visible marks of violence about her body.

Currently, both Seeram and his wife are on station bail.

In March last year, the former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) captain was involved in a similar incident.

He was charged and placed on bail for allegedly threatening his father-in-law with a gun during a heated argument at MovieTowne, Turkeyen.

Seeram is an executive member of the main opposition People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R). Following the incident, Opposition Leader, Aubrey Norton had said Seeram should give up the public office.

  1. Laws of the country are for law abiding citizens.
Obviously, this fellah thinks HE IS ABOVE THE LAWS.
WHY AN ARREST WARRANT WAS NOT ISSUED ?
This Law Breaker has no respect for the Courts too.
The Magistrate should have signed an arrest warrant immediately for not showing up in court.
No wonder the Justice System is in such disarray.
And, everyone wonders why the roadways are used recklessly daily… too much LAWLESSNESS.
