Chairman of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and Executive Member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R) Daniel Seeram was on Friday released on $50,000 bail for allegedly assaulting his wife.

Seeram of Cummings Lodge, Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendam Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Particulars of the charge alleged that Seeram on September 11 at their Cummings Lodge, Georgetown apartment assaulted his wife, causing grievous bodily harm to her.

He was represented by attorney Bernard DaSilva, who made an application for reasonable bail.

Magistrate George released Seeram on $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter until December 8, 2023.

Sources previously told the News Room that on the day in question at about 03:00 hrs,  Seeram returned home during which he and his wife got into a heated argument.

The argument escalated and the couple ended up in a scuffle during which they allegedly beat each other. It is also alleged that Seeram brandished his licensed firearm during the incident.

Seeram eventually left the apartment and a report was made at the Turkeyen Police station by his wife. At the time, there were visible marks of violence about her body.

In March last year, the former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) captain was involved in a similar incident.

He was charged and placed on bail for allegedly threatening his father-in-law with a gun during a heated argument at MovieTowne, Turkeyen.
