In a nail-biting encounter at the ‘Multi’ Ground, the NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power Under-17 National Academy tournament in Essequibo showcased some remarkable talent as the Bartica Football Association Academy narrowly defeated Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon Football Association Academy 2-1.
The match got off to an electrifying start when Ian Gomes of Bartica FA Academy found the back of the net in just the third minute. Gomes’ early goal set the tone for a captivating contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the match.
As the game progressed, an unexpected twist occurred when Leon Farrell of Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon FA Academy accidentally scored an own goal in the 64th minute, giving Bartica FA Academy a 2-0 lead.
Despite being behind, the lads from Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon FA Academy were not ready to give up easily, and their determination paid off in the 79th minute when Roy Vansluytman converted a penalty, bringing his team back into the game.
That was the final goal of the game, as Bartica showcased their prowess and determination in this match-up, underlining their potential as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament.
Essequibo Coast/Pomeroon FA Academy, despite the loss, displayed remarkable sportsmanship and talent throughout the game.
They will have an opportunity to bounce back when they face West Demerara Football Association Academy at the ‘Multi’ Ground on October 21.
