Most crime on the East Coast not premeditated – Commander

Serious crimes on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) have decreased by 10 per cent for the year so far, with a 15 per cent clear up rate.

And Police Commander of the Region 4C, Assistant Commissioner Khali Pareshram said that majority of the crimes are opportunistic and not planned.

Pareshram made this disclosure when he appeared on the GPF ‘Police and You’ radio programme on Thursday. He was accompanied by Deputy Commander, Jermine Dufu.

Police Division 4C is one of the 12 divisions across the country. It stretches from Industry to the Mahaica Bridge.

According to Pareshram, the division is being transformed with both housing and industrial activities as well as new roads.

And the development, Pareshram said is posing “some” challenges in the division, which has one of the largest populations. In fact, he said Police found that much of the criminal activities are not premeditated; that is, perpetrators capitalise on any opportunity to engage in criminal activity.

To tackle this, he said ranks have crafted a “stringent plan.”

“We have a stringent policing plan in terms of our operation in terms of where we are and our visibility.

“The thing is we try to ensure that we are in all of the communities… we could be a deterring factor to the criminals,” Pareshram said.

The plan includes an increase in sting operations and police road blocks.

And members of the public are asked to support the arrangements, which is aimed at tackling criminal activities.

“There are some operations that sometimes may inconvenience members of the public. We do sometime receive backlashes in relation to our road blocks…We are asking persons to abide with us and bear with us,” Dufu said.

He added, “This acts as a deterrent for persons who are currently moving around freely in criminal activities, moving around with firearms, drugs”.

Dufu, who oversees these operations, said the leadership of the division advocate professionalism from ranks part of these operations.

And he said unprofessionalism will not be tolerated.

“…We hope that our operations can be able to stand the scrutiny of everyone by our professionalism.

“… We advocate a certain level of professionalism by our ranks and if they aren’t….we are asking members of the public to come forward and let us investigate and once we find they are at default we will take the necessary actions,” he said.

One would think that SMART people are appointed to HIGH POSITIONS to utter such statement which I term as NONSENSICAL. APC and a DEPUTY knows more about how crimes are committed. CRIMES ARE NOT PLANNED-
JUST A RANDOM ACT- they surmised. Next thing I suspect, these 2 Police guys, will try to sell THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE… to someone in Guyana.
