Venezuelans arrested with narcotics in car at Demerara Harbour Bridge

Police on Monday arrested two Venezuelan nationals following the discovery of 11,000 grams of narcotics in the car in which they were travelling.

In custody are Kevyn De Jesus, 22 and Marcelino Marcos, 29, both of Lot 66 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

The discovery was made at about 05:15hrs in motor car PPP 1521.

Police Headquarters said ranks, acting on information received, conducted a road block on the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

During the process, Police said the car which was heading east was stopped.

“A Police Corporal who was a part of the roadblock, told the driver of his suspicions and requested to carry out a search on the motorcar and the two occupants,” Police said.

According to the Police, a search was carried out on the suspects possession but nothing illegal was found.

However, a further search of the motor car unearthed fifteen compressed parcels.

“The parcels which were opened in the duo’s presence revealed a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis,” Police said.

The suspected were told of the offence committed, cautioned and Police said they remained silent.

They were both taken to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station where the narcotics was weighted in their presence.

The duo remains in custody pending further investigation and charge.
