Essequibo resident on $100,000 bail for causing death of pillion rider

More than a year after pillion rider, Nigel Knights lost his life after the ATV he was on collided with a truck, Rovin James was on Monday charged and placed on $100,000 bail.

James, a resident of Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

James was charged with causing the death of Knights on February 9, 2022, at Eyelash Main Access Road, North West District.

He was not required to plea to the indictable charge and was granted bail; the case was adjourned to February 7, 2024.

The ATV and truck involved in the accident

At the time of the accident, Knights was the pillion rider of an unregistered ATV driven by James. Another pillion rider, identified as Leslie Norton, was seriously injured.

Police Headquarters reported that the ATV was speeding down a hill when James lost control and collided with the truck, GZZ 4598. The truck was being driven by Ryan Vanlange, 38, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.
