Ranks of the Customs Narcotic Unit (CANU) and the Guyana Police Force on Friday discovered more than 200 lbs of cannabis worth $30 million hidden in a vessel near the #52 Village koker, Corentyne, Berbice.
In a press release issued on Saturday, CANU said the discovery was made during a joint operation in the area.
Three persons were on the vessel at the time and upon noticing the law enforcement officials, they escaped and are yet to be located, CANU said.
According to the release, a search of the vessel resulted in the discovery of several parcels suspected to be cannabis; they were concealed in larger bags, CANU said.
The illegal drugs were taken to the agency’s office in Berbice where was weighed and amounted to 296 lbs or 134 kilograms.
Investigations are ongoing.
