Diligent efforts by police ranks in Region Two led to the arrest of 20-year-old Elroy Matthias aka ‘Chinieman’, the man accused of fatally wounding his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
He was nabbed at Good Hope on the Essequibo Coast. Matthias fled the scene after he allegedly chopped his partner’s ex-boyfriend with a cutlass. His actions resulted in the death of 25-year-old Ricardo John of La Belle Alliance and Lima Sands.
The News Room was reliably informed that Matthias allegedly admitted to police that he chopped John to his chest. He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
John died on Monday after he was chopped Matthias.
The incident occurred at around 11:30h along the Lima Sands/Richmond Access Road.
According to reports, John was at a shop imbibing when the woman’s reputed husband approached him.
An argument ensued between the two men. At the time, the suspect was armed with a cutlass. He took the cutlass and chopped John to his upper body and escaped.
John was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. John body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
