BUDGET 2024: New elderly care home at Enmore in $48.3B social services budget

A new care home for senior citizens will be built at Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD), as the government continues to focus on providing key social services, Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh said Monday.

The Finance Minister presented the 2024 National Budget on Monday at a sitting of the National Assembly, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, Georgetown.

Dr. Singh said construction of that facility will commence this year with $172 million set aside.

Aside from this project, Dr. Singh highlighted that ongoing government projects targeting children, women and persons with disabilities will continue to receive significant support from the government.

The government is also focused on combatting key problems such as child abuse and domestic violence, he said.

Overall, Dr. Singh said $48.3 billion has been allocated to the social services sector.
