Investigators on Friday made a breakthrough in the almost three-year-old murder of 20-year-old Shonnette Dover, after her boyfriend Shaquawn Alleyne popularly known as ‘IzWe’, confessed to the crime.

This was confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who told the News Room on Friday night that Alleyne remains in police custody as the probe continues.

Alleyne was recently handed over to local police after he was nabbed in neighbouring Suriname.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) had issued a wanted bulletin for Alleyne in relation to the murder which occurred between April 3 and April 29, 2021 at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden.

Once handed over by Surinamese Police, Alleyne was taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) where he was questioned in relation to the crime.

The News Room was reliably informed that during questioning, Alleyne confessed to committing the murder and provided detectives with details about what transpired.

The News Room was told that Alleyne reportedly said that the crime was not “intentional” or “premeditated” but was an accident.

He also reportedly implicated Dover’s teenage sister, who was charged with accessory.

The News Room understands that Alleyne told investigators that he sent Dover’s sister for the firearm since he wanted to “clean” the weapon.

The day before this, Alleyne reportedly claimed that he took Dover to a shooting practice in Wisroc after he had learnt that some “bad boys’ wanted to rob him.

Alleyne claimed that while cleaning the gun, Dover, who was sitting in front of him, told him to stop “playing” since he was pointing the gun and waving it.

Alleyne claimed that his fingers accidentally touched the trigger and Dover was shot.

He said he noticed her lying motionless with a wound to her forehead.

Alleyne further alleged that he and Dover’s sister came up with a plan to dig a hole and bury her in the backyard, where her body was found.

And the plan was to tell Dover’s family that she left for work and didn’t return.

The confessed killer said that he sold the gun to an individual in Linden and fled to Suriname.

Dover’s body was found in a sitting position in a shallow grave in the backyard of Alleyne’s house at Canvas City, Wismar Linden on April 30, 2021.

Dover was missing since April 3, 2021. A post-mortem examination later found that the woman died as a result of a single gunshot injury to the head.
