Three persons are now homeless after a fire, which was allegedly intentionally set, ripped through an Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD) just after midday Thursday.
The fire started around 12:15hrs at Lot 19 7th street, Side Line Dam, Industry.
The single flat wooden building was owned by 46-year-old Hemwantie Singh and occupied by two others.
In a press statement, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) said preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was maliciously set by person/s unknown.
The fire service said upon receiving the call, two water tenders and firefighting crews were dispatched to the scene.
The firefighters immediately went into operational mode to put out the blaze.
However, despite their efforts, the building and its contents were destroyed.
“Despite the devastating outcome, the fire service successfully contained and extinguished the fire, utilizing resources effectively,” the GFS statement said.
The fire service is calling on anyone who may have information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
