A 26-year-old labourer succumbed to his injuries a month after he fell from a 10-feet metal scaffold while pressure washing a business place at Affiance, Essequibo Coast.

Dead is Domindra Narayan of Columbia, Essequibo Coast. The incident occurred on January 9, 2024, at around 12:45 hrs; Narayan was picked up by employees of the company and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital.

He was admitted and subsequently discharged but according to relatives, he continued to experience excruciating pains in his head.

His mother, Neelam Narayan told the News Room that she decided to take him to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he continued to experience severe pain in the head.

The distraught woman said she had to foot all the medical expenses.

“I couldn’t bear seeing my son in such a state, it was too much for me, my husband is sick and he is the sole breadwinner; it aches my heart,” the mother cried.

She said her son suffered a fractured skull and was bleeding in the head. Before his death, he began to lose his memory.

He died on February 9, 2024.

“My son was in so much pain, I am so helpless, we are poor people and we are quiet people, he was a very simple guy,” the mother said.

The Ministry of Labour is reportedly investigating the incident but the family said no contact has been made with them.

The News Rom understands that the employer reached out to the family concerning funeral expenses.
