Berbice defeated Essequibo by four wickets in a low-scoring second round match in the Guyana Cricket Board’s Senior Female Inter-County 50-over competition on Sunday.

Playing at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, West Coast Demerara, Berbice dismissed Essequibo for just 64 in 27.2 overs before pulling off victory in 12.1 overs, losing six wickets in the process.

Player-of-the-Match Trisha Hardat picked up 3-5 off 3.2 overs of medium-pace, while off-spinners Plaffiana Millington (4-1-11-3) and Ashmini Munisar (7-4-7-2) produced miserly spells for Berbice.

Cyanna Retemiah and Latoya Williams were the only two batters into double-figures for Essequibo with 12 apiece.

The Berbicians were in early trouble in the run-chase, losing openers Shabika Gajnabi for one and Realeanna Grimmond for four at 12-2.

It soon became 31-4, then 52-6 before Tia Isaacs (11*) and the experienced Shemaine Campbelle (4*) closed out the match. Munisar and Sheneta Grimmond had a joint topscore of 16, both hitting three fours each.

Retemiah took 2-28 for Essequibo, while there was a wicket apiece for Yonette Welcome and Kumarie Persaud.
