Regal Stationery and Computer Centre and Regal Sports recently threw their support behind the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) as they plan to play a huge role in the development of the country’s youth players.

The entities, which are subsidiaries of the Regal Business group located in Seaforth Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, are among the longest serving sponsors of cricket in Guyana.

With a franchise softball team, which has won a number of titles, and a history of playing a crucial role in the on and off field development of cricket, Regal will now shift focus to Guyana’s future as it relates to providing financial support to the GCB.

Regal Sports also caters for beginners and professionals in every sporting discipline with quality and trusted brands of sporting equipment at affordable prices, further marrying the new relationship between the two entities as it relates to cricket development and that of its athletes.

Also, Regal Stationery and Computer Centre is the exclusive sponsor of champion softball and hardball cricket teams in Guyana.

Regal Sports Manager Ian John, moments before presenting the G$400,000 sponsorship, said the partnership with the GCB is geared to promote the development of youth cricket in Guyana.

“Regal is an entity that has always been behind sports, whether it be cricket, football, tennis etc. On behalf of our CEO Mahendra Hardyal, I would like to say a special thanks to the Guyana Cricket Board for giving him the opportunity to be part of this initiative,” John said.

Anil Beharry, a Technocrat member of the GCB responsible for Governance, Marketing and Finance, said the Board is focused on using innovative ways of marketing, with youth cricket taking precedence in this regard.

With this in mind, Beharry said the GCB reached out to Regal and management of the company readily agreed to support the youth development programme of the Board.

“We’re very thankful to Regal…we want to wish them well,” Beharry concluded.

The GCB also recently secured corporate support from OES Guyana Inc. to outfit the national male team to compete in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 50-over championship, slated for Antigua in March.

Marketing Coordinator Trevannie Dennis confirmed her company’s alliance with the GCB by presenting a cheque valued US$2,000 to Cricket Operations Manager, Anthony D’Andrade.
