Berbice made a rollicking start to the Guyana Cricket Board’s Female Inter-County T20 competition, rolling over Essequibo by seven wickets at Malteenoes on Thursday.
West Indies player Sheneta Grimmond turned in a brilliant all-round performance, as Berbice romped to victory at 45-3 in 6.4 overs after dismissing Essequibo for 44 in 14.5 overs.
Grimmond led the short run-chase with an unbeaten 22 off 13 balls, striking four fours.
The off-spinner earlier took 3-12 off 2.5 overs and received support from fellow internationals Shabika Gajnabi (2-2) and Ashmini Munisar (2-7) to strangle Essequibo’s batters.
Only Varuni Pitamber with 15 off 20 (2x4s) and opener Laurence Williams with 12 off 16 got double-figures scores for Essequibo.
The competition continues on Friday with Essequibo versus Demerara, followed by the final round between Demerara and Berbice on Saturday.
Both matches will start at 13:30h at Malteenoes.
The Inter-County competition is being used to select the Guyana team to compete in the Cricket West Indies Regional Women’s tournament, set for St. Kitts in March.
