Guyana and the Dominican Republic are strengthening diplomatic and business relations and a new Chamber of Commerce was launched on Tuesday to propel those linkages even further.

The new business service organisation, officially called the Dominican Republic Chamber of Commerce in Guyana, was launched at the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo hosted at the Marriott Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown.

According to the DR Ambassador, Ernesto Torres-Pereyra, this new body showcases just how serious stakeholders from both countries are about collaborating and capitalising on each countries’ strengths.

Already, he pointed out that there have been very tangible gains stemming from the growing Guyana/ DR relationship including direct flights, Presidential visits and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

Still, he believes the two countries can support each other even more.

“I earnestly can say, the best is yet to come,” the Ambassador said.

There is also a Guyanese Chamber of Commerce that is operational in the Dominican Republic. This formal establishment of the Chamber was announced in January on the Facebook page of the Chamber – Guyanachamdr – and is said to represent a landmark action that will set trends in economic and business development for both nations.

The Ambassador also said the private sector in both countries benefit from easy communication among government agencies and a very conducive business environment.
