Popular Guyanese businessman and entertainer, Marlon ‘Freedom Boss’ Jacobs has filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against social media personality Allison Hunt, known as ‘Aunty Allo’.
The case was filed in the High Court since November 2023 but was only served on Hunt this month when she arrived in Guyana. Jacobs is being represented by attorneys Eusi Anderson and Renea Marcus.
Hunt, in a live broadcast on her Facebook page on October 21, 2023, accused Jacobs and his partner of trafficking cocaine to the United States and using their baby to traffick said drugs via his diapers and baby milk.
As a result, Jacobs, through his attorney, is seeking a permanent injunction restraining Hunt from “further publishing by any means whatsoever, whether electronic or print, the words complained of in the Facebook Live.”
He is also seeking an order that Hunt retracts and apologise to him for the “false, malicious and defamatory statements impugning” his character and reputation.
Jacobs also wants the court to implement a mandatory injunction compelling Hunt to permanently remove the Facebook live.
The lawyers argued that the live broadcast was viewed by thousands of people during which Hunt showed his photo and repeatedly accused him of trafficking cocaine.
“The claimant (Jacobs) denies all allegations made by the defendant (Hunt). The allegations levelled against the claimant by the defendant has substantially hurt and diminished his image in the eyes and mind of the Guyanese public and the international community,” the lawyers contended.
The News Room understands that Jacobs’ partner also filed a separate $5 million lawsuit against Hunt for defamation.
