Engineer charged with murder of fiancée freed

Neil Madramootoo, the Ministry of Agriculture engineer who was charged with the murder of his fiancée Ashmin Mahadeo last year was on Wednesday freed after the matter was discharged at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.

The matter was called before Magistrate Peter Hugh who discharged the matter because the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case of murder.

Madramootoo, 29, of Shoe Lane, New Amsterdam was charged with murder before the said Magistrate in November last year.

The offense occurred on October 1, 2023, at Williamsburg, Corentyne; the victim was shot in the neck and remained hospitalized until her death on November 12; she was also paralyzed as a result of the gunshot wound.

Madramootoo was initially charged with attempted murder and was out on $500,000 bail; the charge was upgraded following the 32-year-old woman’s death.

He was remanded to prison until November 22, 2023; Madramootoo was presented by Nigel Hughes.

Prior to her death, Mahadeo identified Madramootoo as the shooter in her statement to the police. Mahadeo was shot in the back of the neck outside her home while she and Madramootoo were packing the car for her bridal shower.

A post-mortem examination revealed that she died from septic anemia Shock, Lobor Pneumonia, and gunshot injuries.
