Teen charged after caught with illegal gun used to shoot Berbice woman

Less than two weeks after a woman was shot and injured, an eighteen-year-old Berbice resident was on Monday slapped with two charges stemming from the same incident.

Daniel Greenidge of Budhan’s Housing Scheme, West Canje, Berbice appeared before Magistrate Michelle Mathias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

He pleaded not guilty to the illegal possession of a firearm charge and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to March 27.

Greendige was caught with the gun used to shoot and wound Sheet Anchor resident, Fay Samaroo.

He was not required to enter a plea to that charge and was placed on $200,000 bail.

Police Headquarter said both charges stemmed from the incident which occurred at Samaroo’s home on February 27, 2024.

The incident occurred at about 23:55 hrs.

Reports indicated that a lone gunman, approached the Samaroo’s house and opened fire, leaving her wounded.
