Off-spinner Ravaldo Pereira picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl Guyana to victory over Jamaica in the third round of the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 Championship in Antigua on Saturday.

Playing at the Bethesda Sports Ground, Guyana posted 219 from 48 of the allotted 50 overs with Shamar Apple scoring a fifty, before Pereira’s efforts saw Jamaica falling short by 14 runs.

Pereira of Georgetown Cricket Club picked up 5-29 off 10 overs, the second Guyanese to take a five-wicket haul in the tournament after Arif Khan’s 5-18 against Trinidad and Tobago in the second round on Thursday.

Danvir Seegobin (2-29), skipper Adrian Hetmyer (2-42) and Parmeshwar Ram (1-29) were the other wicket-takers for Guyana, as Tyson Gordon (57) and Demario Hall (52) made half-centuries for the Jamaicans, who were dismissed for 205 off 48.4 overs.

Earlier, left-hander Apple of Transport Sports Club struck a breezy 69 off 65 balls to lead Guyana’s batting effort.

The big-hitting batsman struck four sixes and two fours in the innings, batting at number six. After Guyana’s top-order of Parmeshwar Ram (8), Justin Dowlin (7) and vice-captain Emmanuel Lewis (16) fell cheaply, Apple played a key role in a middle-order resurgence to give Guyana a winning total.

Khush Seegobin missed out on a fifty, being dismissed for 46 off 74 balls (7x4s), while Hetmyer chipped in with 24 off 27 (4x4s).

Bowling for Jamaica, Ryan Lyttleton took 4-53 and Hall 2-29.

This is Guyana’s second victory in three matches, with the first round game against Barbados a no-result due to rain.

In the other two games, Leeward Islands defeated Windward Islands by 44 runs and Barbados thumped Trinidad and Tobago by 119 runs.

    Below are the summarized scores

    At Liberta Sports Club: Leeward Islands 173-9 from 50 overs (J. Athanaze 53, H. Roberts 32; E. Fontaine 4-42) vs Windward Islands 129 all out from 43.2 overs (D. John 33; J. Athanaze 3-13, S. Harris 3-21)

    At All Saints Cricket Ground: Barbados 299-6 from 50 overs (D. Wiggins 124, J. Parris 63, K. Dixon 52; A. Mohammed 3-60) vs Trinidad and Tobago 180 all out from 42.3 overs (S. Ramtahal 24, R. Ali Khan 21; R. Stoute 4-45)

The competition will continue on April 1 with Guyana playing Windward Islands, Leeward Islands versus Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica up against Barbados.
