Rising Stars U-15: Guyana thump Windward Islands to remain in title hunt

Guyana remained in the hunt for championship honours in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 Championship with a third straight victory on Monday in Antigua.

Playing in the fourth round encounter at the Bethesda Sports Ground, Guyana defeated Windward Islands by 91 runs.

Guyana and Barbados are the only unbeaten teams, with three victories and a no-result keeping them at the top of the table.

Batting first, Guyana posted 251-6 from the allotted 50 overs with skipper Adrian Hetmyer hitting 52 off 58 (3x4s, 2x6s).

Left-hander Shamar Apple followed up his 65 in the last game with an unbeaten 43 off 46 (2x4s, 1×6), while openers Khush Seegobin made 35 off 39 (6x4s) and Parmeshwar Ram scored 30 off 61 (2x4s).

Vice-captain Emmanuel Lewis chipped in with 22 off 32, Danvir Seegobin made 18 off 42 (2x4s) and Richard Ramdeholl 13* off 15. Bowling for Windward Islands, A. Bishop took 3-35 off 10 and K. Bartholomew 2-49.

Spin pair Ramdeholl and Ravaldo Pereira then combined for six wickets as Windward Islands were dismissed for 160 in 39.3 overs.

Ramdeholl took 3-7 off four overs, while Pereira continued his fine form with 3-35 off six. Pereira took a five-wicket haul in the previous game against Jamaica.

This is Guyana’s third victory in four matches, with the first round game against Barbados a no-result due to rain.

In the other two games, Barbados defeated Jamaica by four wickets and Trinidad and Tobago prevailed by three wickets over Leeward Islands.

The competition will conclude on April 3 with Guyana playing Leeward Islands, Barbados versus Windward Islands and Jamaica against Trinidad and Tobago.
