Exciting wicketkeeper/batsman Jamaine Grovesnor lit up the Transport and General Sports Club in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Under-13 Pairs competition, sponsored by sponsored by I&S Trading, TECHLIFY Inc. and Unique Electrical and General Store.
The 30-over competition features rivalry among male and female teams from the city.

Grovesnor of the Demerara Cricket Club struck 48, the highest individual score of the competition to date, and 21 in his two innings. He also made 26 and 32 during the opening weekend of the tournament.
Also among the runs were Reyaz Latif (31), Nathan Bishop (28) and Shahid Ramzan (20), while Wazim Ali (3-13), Chelsea Latiff (3-19) and Rakeem Latif (3-20) were impressive with the ball.
Based on the tournament rules, teams start with a total of 240 runs and for every wicket lost during the 30 overs, 10 runs are deducted to derive their final total, which the opposition has to chase.
Players bat in pairs, with six pairs batting a maximum of five overs. Eight bowlers are allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs each, while three will bowl two apiece.

Team Unique Electrical and General Store defeated Team Leviton by 129 runs: Led by a classy 31 from national youth player Reyaz Latif, Team Unique Electrical and General Store posted 301 from the allotted 30 overs.
Grovesnor made 21, while Ramzan chipped in with 20 to back up his 40 on the opening weekend.
Wazim Ali was the pick of the bowlers with 3-13, while nine-year-old Caleb Bastian displayed great control and accuracy in claiming 2-16 and Nathaniel Sukhnandan 1-16.
In reply, Team Leviton could only put up 172, with Nathan Bishop hitting a top score of 28 and Prosper Jacobus and Satindra Shiwdarsan both making 12.
Bowling for Team Unique Electrical and General Store, Rakeem Latif grabbed 3-20, while Tejasvarun Kandavel took 2-12, Krishna Singh 2-15 and Kaiden Smith 2-19.
Hershey’s Chocolate (Ladies) defeated Team TECHLIFY Inc. by 189 runs: Batting first, Hershey’s Chocolate (Ladies) posted 395 from their quota of 30 overs.
Selena Khan and Melanie Dover had a joint top score of 13, with Rushel Roberts making 11. Nathan Puran (2-6), Saurav Persaud (1-11) and Omari John (1-25) were among the wickets.
Team TECHLIFY Inc. could only manage 206, despite Grovesnor’s belligerent knock of 48. The burly right-hander dealt in boundaries, sparing no bowler as he went on a late afternoon onslaught, much to the delight of a fair-sized crowd.
Azariah Duncan (16), Nathan Puran (12) and Mickel Johnson (12) also got starts for Team TECHLIFY Inc. Bowling for Hershey’s Chocolate, Chelsea Latiff took 3-19, Selena Khan 2-9 and Rushel Roberts 2-19.
The competition continues on Saturday (April 13) with Badia Spices (Ladies) taking on TECHLIFY Inc. from 09:00h and Team I&S Trading up against Badia Spices (Ladies) from 13:30h.
Both matches are slated for the Transport and General Sports Club on Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
